Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral Neuropathy
Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms in your hands or feet:
- Weakness
- Numbness
- Burning
- Prickling
- Shooting sensations
- Throbbing
You could be suffering from a condition called peripheral neuropathy which results from damage to the peripheral nerves. And although symptoms commonly occur in the hands and feet, they can be present elsewhere in the body.
Causes of Peripheral Neuropathy
Nerves can be damaged a result of a number of issues such as:
- Chronic diseases such as diabetes or kidney disorders
- Injuries that cause trauma to the nerves such as a car accident or fall
- Infections and autoimmune disorders such as Lyme disease or lupus
- Alcoholism
- Environmental toxins
- Certain medications such as anticonvulsants and medications used to treat cancer
Treatment:
Doctors will often prescribe medication; however, this is only a temporary solution because the underlying issue is not addressed.
Chiropractic Approach
At Dynamic Medical Center, we specialize in working with patients who suffer from peripheral neuropathy. The nerve damage that results from peripheral neuropathy is often caused by a lack of blood flow (which contains oxygen) to the nerves. Oxygen is vital to proper nerve function. Providing more oxygen to the damaged nerve fibers can enable the nerve fibers to heal. Our treatment is designed to increase blood circulation thus allowing successful regeneration of the nerve fibers.
We will first do an evaluation which includes obtaining your medical history and performing a physical examination. Based on the results of this evaluation, a treatment plan will be created specifically for you.
We look forward to meeting you and helping you to live your life without the pain you are currently experiencing. Give us a call today at (850) 402-9061.
